Ingredients:
No.1 Xiyangshen (Radix Panacis Guinquefolli) 5 g
No.2 Shihu (Herba Dendrobii) 15 g
No.3 Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis) 9 g
No.4 Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis) 3 g
No.5 Zhuye (Herba Lophatheri) 6 g
No.6 Hegeng (Petiolus Nelumbinis) 6 g
No.7 Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) 6 g
No.8 Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) 3 g
No.9 Jingmi (Fructus Oryzae Sativae) 15 g
No.10 Xigua Cuiyi (Exocarpium Citrulli) 30 g
Administration:
Decoct the above drugs in water for oral application.
Actions:
Clearing away summer-beat and benefiting qi, nourishing yin and promoting production of body fluid.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is particularly designed for consumption of qi and fluid by summer-heat, marked by feverish body, profuse perspiration, vexation, thirst, general debility, scanty and dark urine, feeble and rapid pulse. It is applicable to infantile summer fever, polydipsia and tiredness, which pertain to deficiency of qi and body fluid. In case of mild fever due to mild summer-heat, ingredient No. 4 can be subtracted to prevent it from impairing body fluid because of its bitter and dry nature. If complicated with dampness manifesting chest distress and greasy fur, ingredients No. 3 and No. 7 can be subtracted to prevent them from inducing dampness.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is due to consumption of qi and body fluid by summer-heat, and should be treated by clearing away summer-heat, supplementing qi and nourishing yin. Ingredients No. 1 and No. 10 act as monarch drug, which supplement qi and promote the production of body fluid, and remove summer-heat respectively. The combined application of both achieves the effect of removing pathogenic factors and strengthening body resistance simultaneously. Ingredient No. 6 helps bring about the effect of No. 10, and No. 2 and No. 3 help No. 1 carry out its function. The three ingredients form minister drug. Ingredients No. 4, No. 5 and No. 7 serve as adjuvant drug, helping subdue summer-heat. Ingredients No. 8 and No. 9 are meant to promote the function of the stomach and mediate drug properties, acting together as guiding drugs.
