Ingredients:
No.1 Fangfeng (Radix Ledebouriellae) 50 g
No.2 Zhihuangqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari Praeparatae) 100 g
No.3 Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) 100 g
Administration:
Grind the above drugs into coarse powder, take 9 g each time for making decoction.
Actions:
Replenishing qi, consolidating the superficies and arresting perspiration.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for lowered superficial resistance due to deficiency, marked by perspiration with aversion to wind, pale complexion, or general debility subjective to pathogenic wind, pale tongue with whitish fur, superficial and feeble pulse. It is applicable to rhinallergosis, and upper respiratory tract infection, which pertain to syndrome of invasion by pathogenic wind due to lowered superficial resistance, as well as bronchial asthma, glomerulonephritis and other diseases, the recurrence of which is often induced by common cold.
In case of polyhidrosis with aversion to wind, add Fuxiaomai (Fructus Tritici Levis), Duanmuli (Concha Ostreae) (calcined) and Mahuanggen (Radix Ephedrae) to enhance the effect of strengthening superficial resistance for arresting perspiration. In case of sneeze and nasal discharge, add Xinyi (Flos Magnoliae) and Cang’erzi (Fructus Xanthii) to relieve stuffy nose.
Elucidation:
The syndrome arises when deficient wei-qi fails to consolidate body superficies. It should be treated by means of supplementing qi and consolidating the superficies to arrest perspiration. The second ingredient is good at replenishing qi and consolidating the superficies and used as monarch drug. The last ingredient, with the function of invigorating the spleen and supplementing qi, acts as minister drug to help bring about the effect of the monarch drug. The first ingredient can dispel wind and, when in compatibility with the rest two, build up body resistance and eliminate pathogenic factors as adjuvant drug.
Combination of the three has the characteristics of reinforcing the superficies with pathogenic factors eliminated and eliminating pathogenic factors without impairing the body resistance. Therefore, it is good for patients with spontaneous perspiration because it replenishes qi, strengthens superficial resistance and arrests perspiration. As for those with general debility and apt to be attacked by wind, it can reinforce the body resistance to wind.
Cautions:
It is contraindicated for spontaneous perspiration due to exogenous pathogenic factors, or night sweating due to yin deficiency, or general debility attacked by exogenous pathogenic factors.
