Character of the tongue: There are gruel spots on the tongue like rice grains, or white gruel spots like curbs on the whole tongue. Or the spots spread to sublingual part or other parts in the mouth. They can be scraped away, but would reappear immediately. When they are scraped away, the tongue body is bright and smooth without fur.
Clinical significance: It indicates deficiency of both qi and yin, deficiency of healthy qi failing to defeat the pathogenic factors, or overflow of pathogenic dampness, heat and turbidity. It is often seen in serious conditions.
