Common symptoms: Phlegm dampness syndrome experiences various symptoms and signs, invoMng many organs and tissues. Phlegm dampness in the lungs experiences productive cough, breathlessness and chest fullness; phlegm dampness in the stomach experiences poor appetite, abdominal fullness, even vomiting sputum and saliva; phlegm dampness may also lodge in skin, throat and so on, and cloud mind and spirit, and be accompanied by liver wind; soft and slippery pulse.
Tongue manifestations: Phlegm dampness displays slimy fur at most (Fig. 3-43); dampness or phlegm turbidity displays sticky and slimy fur(Fig.3- 44) 0r filthy and slimy fur(Fig.3- 45).

Phlegm dampness can be classified into heat phlegm dampness and cold phlegm dampness. Heat phlegm dampness includes phlegm heat and dampness heat, and primarily exhibits yellowish slimy fur; more heat with less dampness exhibits red tongue with yellowish slimy and dry fur(Fig. 3 - 46) , more dampness with less heat exhibits yellowish slimy and moist fur (Fig. 3 - 47).

Cold phlegm dampness includes cold phlegm and cold dampness, and exhibits whitish and slimy fur; more cold with less dampness exhibits pale tongue with whitish, thick, slimy and moist fur (Fig.3- 48), more dampness and less cold exhibits whitish, slimy and moist fur(Fig.3- 49); yang deficiency and fluids retention results in tender and swollen tongue with slimy and watery fur(Fig.3 -50).

Heat from cold dampness results in whitish slimy fur which begins to dry gradually(Fig. 3- 51), or transforming into yellowish slimy fur and then it mingles with whitish slimy fur (Fig.3- 52).
