Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a acute viral (single- stranded RNA ) neurologic infection closely related to St. Louis encephalitis and West Nile virus. The disease is spread throughout mostly in rural areas of Asia in autumn and summer by culicine mosquitoes, most often Culex tritaeniorhynchus. The disease is characterized by acute onset, fever, coma and convulsion. Traditional Chinese Medicine believed that it is a kind of epidemic febrile diseases. It is treated by herbs for clearing heat from qi and ying phrase, removing phlegm and promoting resuscitation in acute phase and treated by herbs for regulating qi and blood circulation and removing obstruction from the meridians and collaterals for it's sequelae.

Treatment

Fengfu (DU16)
Point injection can be applied on Fengfu (DU16) once daily with 1 ml Vitamin B12 and 1 ml 2% Procain for 10 days of duration with intervals of 3-5 days between two durations, which is for aphasia due to Japanese encephalitis.

Note
Japanese encephalitis is characterize by acute onset and serious condition. Acupuncture can be only used to treat its sequelae and is better used with multiple points.
