Malaria is caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium, and carried from person to person by mosquitoes.People with malaria often experience fever, chills, and flu-like illness and is treated with herbs for harmonizing Shaoyang meridian and check malaria.

Treatment
1. Shenzhu (DU12)
The three edged needle is used to prick Shenzhu at 1-2 hours before the  temperature goes up, causing bleeding at amount of 3-5 drops.

2. Nuemen
It is extra point located in the depression proximal to the margin of the web between the middle and ring fingers. Filiform needle is inserted into Yuemen at depth of 1 cun, remaining for 20 minutes with manipulation of needle every 5-10 minutes, which can be applied before or on fever attack. The strength of manipulation vary from people to people in dependence of their constitution.

3. Dazhui (DU14)
The patient is asked to take sitting posture and is pricked on Dazhui with three edged needle before cupping. It would cause bleeding at amount of 5-10 ml. Apply it once daily for 2-7 times before being cured.

4. Houxi (SI3)
Two hours before fever attack, the needle is inserted into Houxi (S13) on both sides with reducing manipulation and remained for 1 hour, once daily.

Note
Acupuncture treatment of the disease before fever attack can not only check the recurrence of the fever, but also promote body immune function to kill protozoan parasites.
