Acupuncture Extra Point Shangyingxiang (EX-HN8)
Location:
One's back propped; at the end of the upper extremity of the nasolabial groove, on the lateral and inferior border of the nasal bone, on the meeting point alar cartilage and concha.
Function:
Dispersing wind and removing obstruction of the nose.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-levator muscle of upper lip and nasal ala.
There are the branches of the infraorbital and infratrochlear nerves, the buccal branches of the facial nerve, and the angular artery and vein in this area.
Indications:
Rhinitis, Nasosinusitis, facial paralysis, blepharitis ciliaris, Headache, and common cold.
Prescription:
Combined use with bilaiteral JingmingBL1 (Jingming (BL 1)), biliteral CuanzhuBL2 (Cuanzhu (BL 2)), biliteral TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) for treatment of blepharitis ciliaris; and with ShangxingGV23 (Shangxing (GV23)), YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3), HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI 4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of chronic rhinitis; with CuanzhuBL2 (BL2), LiequeLU7 (Lieque (LU7) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of paranasal sinusitis.
Methods:
Insert the needle supero-medially 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local distension and heaviness, sometimes radiating toward the nose; or mild moxibustion for 5-10 min.
