Acupuncture Point Futu (LI18)
Location:
Sit upright, raise one's head inclinedly and slightly. At first, locat LianquanCV23 (Lianquan (CV23)) (between thyroid cartilage and the hyoid bone). Then 3 cun lateral to LianquanCV23 (CV23)
between sternal caput and clavicular caput of the m. sternocleidomastoideus.

Function:
Removing intense heat from the throat, and chest, regulating qi and dispersing the accumulation of lumps.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between sternal head and clavicular head of sternocleidomastoid muscle-posterior border of carotid sheath.
In the superficial layer, there are the transverse nerve of the neck and platysma muscle. In the deep layer, there arethe carotid sheath.

Indications:
Cough, asthma, sore throat, sudden loss of voice, scrofula, and goiter.

Prescription:
Combined use with TiantuCV22 (Tiantu (CV22)) and TaixiKI3 (Taixi (KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of guttural disorders with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST 36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of neurodermatitis; sputum gurgling on the throat and asthma with HuantiaoGB30 (Huantiao (GB30 )) for treatment of urticaria.

Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely toward the vertebrae cervicales 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling
response:
local sensation of distension and numbness, irradiating toward the hand; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don't puncture obliquely toward the anteromedial aspect, or else the needle would injure the carotid vagina vasorum by which the common carotid artery, the internal jungular vine and the vagus nerve aer wrapped.
