Acupuncture Point Yangxi (LI6)
Location:
Incline the palm, flex the elbow; draw a line connecting YangxiLI5 (LI 5) and QuchiLI11 (LI 11), a spot on this line, 1/4 apart from YangxiLI5 (LI 5), or 3/4 apart from QuchiLI11 (LI 11).
Function:
Clearing away heat and promoting diuresis.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-short extensor muscle of thumb-long radial extensor muscle tendon of wrist-long abductor muscle tendon of thumb.
In the superficial layer, there are the tributaries of the cephalic vein, the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the superficial branches of the radial nerve In the deep layer, there are the branches of the posterior interosseous nerve of the radial nerve.
Indications:
Redness of the eye, Tinnitus, deafness, epistaxis, aching of the hand and arm, sore throat, Edema.
Prescription:
Combined use with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of hemiplegia; with TianshuST25(Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine) and ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST 36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of hydroperitoneum and meteorism; with ShousanliLI10 (Shousanli (LI10)) for treatment of sensation of soreness and heaviness in the arm; with YangxiLI5 (Yangxi (LI 5) Jing-River Point), ShangyangLI1 (Shangyang (LI 1) Jing-Well Point), LuoqueBL8 (Luoque (BL8)), WanguGB12 (Wangu (GB12)) and QianguSI2 (Qiangu (SI 2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of tinnitus; with TaiyuanLU9 (Taiyuan (LU9) Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of tachypnea and cough.
Methods:
Puncture perpendicularly or obliquely 0.3 cun deep; needling response: local distension and soreness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
