Acupuncture Point Wenliu (LI7)
Location:
Incline the palm, flex the elbow; 1 cun distal to the midpoint of the line connecting YangxiLI5 (LI 5) and QuchiLI11 (LI 11).
Function:
Clearing away heat, regulating the Functions of the intestines and the stomach.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-long radial extensor muscle tendon of wrist-short radial extensor muscle of wrist.
In the superficial layer, there are the cephalic vein, the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm. In the deep layer, there are the superficial branches of the radial nerve before the tendons of the long and short radial extensor muscles of the wrist.
Indications:
Headache, and swelling of the face, sore throat, borborygmus, abdominal pain, aching of the shoulder and arm.
Prescription:
Combined use with TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine) for treatment of enteritis; with ShaoshangLU11 (Shaoshang (LU11) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of acute tonsillitis; and with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of inflammation of the throat; and with NeitingST44 (Neiting (ST44) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of toothache.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly or obliquely 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local distension and soreness, deep radiating towards the hand; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
