Acupuncture Point Shouwuli (LI13)
Location:
Flex the elbow; 3 cun vertically above QuchiLI11(Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point) on the external border of the tendon of brachial triceps.
Function:
Clearing and activating the channels and collaterals, regulating the flow of qi, dissolving mass.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-brachial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral inferior cutaneous nerve of the arm and the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm. In the deep layer, there are the radial collateral artery and vein and the radial.
Indications:
Contracture and pain of the elbow and arm, scrofula.
Combined use with BinaoLI14 (Binao (LI 14)) for treatment of tuberculosis of cervical lymph nodes; with JianyuLI15 (Jianyu (LI 15)) for treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis; with TaixiKI3 (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point), DazhongKI4 (Dazhong (KI 4) Luo-Connecting Point), ZhaohaiKI6 (Zhaohai (KI 6) The Eihgt Confluent Point) and ErjianLI2 (Erjian (LI2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of somnolence; and with QuchiLI11 (LI11), TongliHT5 (Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point) and ZhongzhuTE3 (Zhongzhu (TE3) Shu-Stream Point) for treatment of swelling and pain of the arm.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness, irradiating toward the arm; moxibustion: using 7-15 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
