Acupuncture Point Erjian (LI2)
Location:
Incline the palm, make a loose fist; on the radial side and at the anterior of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the index finger, just ahead the phalangeal capitulum of the 1st knuckle of the index finger, at the dorso-ventral boundary of the hand.
Function:
Clearing heat and relieving sore-throat.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-first lumbrical muscle tendon-base of proximal phalanx of index finger.
In the superficial layer, there are the dorsal digital nerve of the radial nerve, the proper palmar digital nerve of the median nerve, the branches of the first dorsal metacarpal artery and vein and the branches of the radial artery and vein of the index finger. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the median nerve.
Indications:
Blurred vision, Epistaxis, toothache, sore throat, and febrile diseases.
Prescription:
Combined use with TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) and YongquanKI1 (Yongquan (KI 1) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of trigeminal neuralgia; with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis; with SanjianLI3 (Sanjian (LI 3) Shu-Stream Point) for treatment of somnolence; with ShangyangLI1 (Shangyang (LI1) Jing-Well Point), WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL 40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) and KunlunBL60 (Kunlun (BL60) Jing-River Point) for treatment of stiffness and pain in the shoulder and back.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to a depth of 0.2-0.3 cun; needling response: local distention and soreness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
