Acupuncture Point Zhourong (SP20)
Location:
Supine position; in the 2nd intercostal space, 2 cun laterally apart from the midclavicular line.
Function:
Promoting the dispersing function if the lung and regulating the flow of qi, and resolving phlegm.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-great pectoral muscle-smaller pectoral muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral cutaneous branches of the 2nd intercostal nerve and the superficial vein. In the deep layer, there are the medial pectoral nerve, the lateral pectoral nerve and the pectoral branches of the thoracoacromial artery and vein.
Indications:
Fullness in the chest and hypochondriac region, cough, hiccup.
Prescription:
Combined use with Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of pleurisy and intercostal neuralgia; with Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of tracheitis.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely 1.0-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensatio of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the external intercostal muscles-the internal intercostal muscles-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip, and cause an injury to lung, leading to pneumatothorax.
