Acupuncture Point Xuehai (SP10)
Location:
1. Sit upright with flexed knees; 2 cun above the medial and superior border of patella, at the midpoint of the protuberance of m. vastus medialis. 2. Sit upright with flexed knees; the doctor
faces the patient, presses the knee-cap of the patient with a palm, aims the centre of the palm at the top of the knee-cap, with the thumb pointing medially, the spot where the tip of the thumb touches is XuehaiSP10 (Xuehai (SP10)).
Function:
Regulating menstruation, stopping bleeding, expelling wind and removing dampness.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin- subcutaneous tissue-medial vastus muscle of thigh.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneius branches of the femoral nerve and the tributaries of the great saphenous vein. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of t he femoral artery and vein and the muscular branches of the femoral nerve.
Indications:
Irregular Menstruation, dysmenorrhea, uterine bleeding, Amenorrhea, Urticaria, Eczema, erysipelas, pain in the medial aspect of the thigh.
Prescription:
Combined use with Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point), Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Hegu (LI 4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of urticaria; with Acupuncture Single Point Daimai for treatment of menoxenia; with Acupuncture Single Point Guanyuan Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatment of metrorrhagia; and with Huiyang (BL35) for treatment of menalgia.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: a local sensation of distension and heaviness around the knee; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
