Acupuncture Point Xiongxiang (SP19)
Location:
Supine position; firstly, locate RuzhongST17 (Ruzhong (ST17)), 2 cun laterally apart from RuzhongST17 (ST17), ascrend for 1 rib, just in the 3th intercostal space.
Function:
Regulating the flow of qi to alleviate pain.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greater pectoral muscle-smaller pectoral muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral cutaneous branches of the 3rd inercostal nerve and the tributaries of the thoracoepigastric vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the medial pectoral nreve and the lateral pectoral nerve, the pectoral branches of the thoracoacromial artery vein and the branches or tributaries of the lateral thoracic artery and vein.
Indications:
Fullness to pain in the chest and hypochondriac region.
Prescription:
Combined use with JianshiPC5 (Jianshi (PC5) Jing-River Point) for treatment of intercostal neuralgia; with XinshuBL15 ( Xinshu (BL15)) and FeishuBL13 (Feishu (BL13)) for treatment of tracheitis.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely 1.0-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the external intercostal muscles-the internal intercostal muscles-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip, and cause an injury to lung, leading to pneumatothorax.
