Acupuncture Point Yifeng (TE17)
Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate on one's side; fold the ear lobe medially somewhat, in the depression anterior to mastoid process.
Function:
Improving the acuity of hearing, expelling wind-heat, and activating the collaterals.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-parotid gland.
In the superficial layer, there are the great auricular nerve and the tributaries of the external jugular vein. In the deep layer, there are the posterior auricular artery of the external carotid artery and the facial nerve.
Indications:
Deaf-mutism, parotitis, Mandibular arthritis, stomatitis, risorius muscle paralysis, goiter, eye disease, toothache, and facial paralysis.
Prescription:
Combined use with ZhongzhuTE3 (Zhongzhu (TE3) Shu-Stream Point) for treatment of tinnitus and deafness; with XiaguanST7 (Xiaguan (ST7)) for treatment of mandibular arthritis; with TongliHT5 (Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point) for treatment of sudden aphasia; and with QubinGB7 (Qubin (GB7)), TouweiST8 (Touwei (ST8)), FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)), and TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) for the treatment of allergic toothache.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 0.5-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Yifeng (TE17) Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the important structures including the internal carotid artery and the internal jugular vein etc and cause the bleeding of the neck part.
