Acupuncture Point Fuxi (BL38)
Location:
Lie pronely; firstly, locate WeiyangBL39(Weiyang (BL39) Lower Confluent Point) (1 cun lateral to the midpoint of the popliteal fossa), 1 cun vertically above WeiyangBL39(BL39) on the medial side of the muscle tendon of biceps femoris.
Function:
Relaxing the muscles and tendons, and activating the flow of qi and blood in the channels and collaterals.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-mecdial border of tendon of biceps muscle of thigh-lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle.
In the superficial layer, there is the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve. In the deep layer, there are the common peroneal nerve, the lateral cutaneous nerve of the calf and the lateral superior genicular artery and vein.
Indications:
Acute gastroenteritis, urocystitis, anuresis, Constipation, paralysis of the lateral side of the lower limbs.
Prescription:
Combined use with YanglingquanGB34 (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for treatment of patellar chondritis; with ChengshanBL57 (Chengshan (BL57)) for treatment of spasm of the lower limbs; and with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of acute gastroenteritis.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 1-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension, radiating downwards; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
