Acupuncture Point Baihuanshu (BL30)
Location:
Lie pronely; at the level of the lower border of the 4th sacral vertebrae, 1.5 cun apart from posterior median line laterally.
Function:
Strengthening the loins and back, reinforcing the kidney, regulating menstruation and leukorrhea, and relaxing the bowels and urination.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greatest gluteal muscle-sacrotuberous ligament-piriform muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the middle and inferior clunial nerves. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the superior and inferior gluteal arteries and veins and the sactal nervous plexus and sacral venous plexus.
Indications:
Pain in the lumboscaral region, Sciatica, endometrial inflammation, sphincterismus, poliomyelitis sequelae, paralysis of the lower limbs, Constipation, and anuresis.
Prescription:
Combined use with SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)) for treatmen of dysmenorrhea, and irregular menstruation; with HuantiaoGB30 (Huantiao (GB30 )) for treatmen of sciatica; with GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatmen of sexual impotence, and spermatorrhea; with ChengfuBL36 (Chengfu (BL36)), DachangshuBL25 (Dachangshu (BL25)) for the treatment of difficulty in urination and defecation; and with WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) for the treatment of backache.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 1-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension, radiating downwards; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
