(1) Penetrating Puncture of the Interior-exteriorly Related Meridians
Point: Penetrating from Yanglao (SI 6) to Tongli (HT5)
Technique: Tell the patient to sit straight with palms down. The practitioner uses the left thumb to press the ulnar head posterior to the wrist, and the index finger to locate the spot where Tongli (HT5) is located. The needle is inserted in Yanglao (SI 6) to a depth of 0.5 cun. After the arrival of qi, the needle is pushed toward Tongli (HT5), the needling sensation traveling along the wrist. Points are needled bilaterally and needles are retained for 20 minutes. The technique treats palpitation due to the restlessness of the heart and mind caused by the emotional injury.
(2) Needling Such Points as Suliao (GV 25)
Points: Suliao (GV 25), Neiguan (PC6) and Anmian (Extra)
Technique: It is enough to insert the needle in Suliao (GV 25) just under the skin. Use the finger to scrape the needle handle for one minute, scraping once a second. Other points are needled with a l.5-cun filiform needle, after the arrival of qi. The reinforcing manipulation achieved by rapid and slow insertion and withdrawal of the needle is performed. Needles are retained for five minutes. The treatment has been applied in 54 cases of sinus bradycardia, with an effective rate of 88%.
(3) Needling Zanzhu (BL2) Only
Technique: Insert a one-cun filiform needle obliquely through the skin to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun. After the arrival of qi, the needles are retained for 15 minutes. Other rotations of the needle are performed once every three minutes.
(4) Needling Points of Lower Limb
Points: Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Tiaokou (ST 38) and Chengshan (BL57)
Technique: Perform routine acupuncture technique, retaining needles for 20 minutes after the arrival of qi. The method has been used to treat 112 cases of organic heart disease complicated by ventricular bigemina, with an effective rate of 72.6%.
(5) Needling Mainly Extra Points
Points: Xinshu1 (between the 2nd and 3rd thoracic vertebrae), Xinshu2 (between the 4th and 5th thoracic vertebrae), the point beside cervical vertebra (between the 5th and 6th cervical vertebrae, 0.5 cun lateral to the midline), the heart point [3 cun below Shaohai (HT3)], Jianshi (PC5) and Yanglingquan (GB34)
Technique: Apply strong stimulation in acupuncture treatment, and manipulate the needle until the arrival of qi. The needles may not be retained or retained 5 to 10 minutes. Twelve daily sessions of treatment constitute one course, and three-day break should be taken between courses.
