(1) Mild Warm Moxibustion with Moxa Stick
Point: Baihui (GV 20)
Technique: The patient should sit upright. The practitioner parts the patient's hair with his left hand to expose the point, then holds the moxa stick with his right hand and performs the mild warm moxibustion for five minutes. Afterwards, a 15-minute sparrow pecking moxibustion is carried out. The treatment is performed once daily or every other day.
(2) Indirect Moxibustion with Salt
Point: Shenque (Ren 8)
Technique: The patient lies in a supine position. Take an appropriate amount of the fine salt to fill the whole umbilicus. Place the moxa cone on the salt. Five to 10 moxa cones should be used each time, each moxa cone being as big as a soybean. The treatment is carried out once daily or every other day, five to seven sessions being one course. When the moxibustion treatment is performed, great attention should be paid to preventing the patient from being burnt.
(3) Indirect Moxibustion with Ginger
Points: (1) Baihui (GV 20), Weishu (BL21), Changqiang (GV 1), Shangshan(BL57). ② Shenque (Ren 8), Qihai (Ren 6), Henggu(KI 11) and Zusanli (ST 36)
Technique: Use the two groups of points alternately. Apply moxibustion once a day, placing five to seven moxa cones on ginger on each point each time. The moxa cone is in the size of a soybean or a date pit. Three sessions of treatment constitute one course.
