(1) Needling Points Baihui (GV 20) and Qihai (Ren 6)
Technique: Needle Baihui (GV 20) obliquely to a depth of 0.3 cun at first, retaining the needle for five minutes. Then Qihai (Ren 6) is needled perpendicularly to a depth of 0.8 to 1 cun. When the needle is at a certain depth, it should be rotated along with forward movement of the thumb so that soreness and distention are felt on the point. The needle should be taken out when the soreness and distention reach the perineum. Treatment is conducted once every other day.
(2) Needling Points Changqiang (GV 1), and Erbai (4 cun below the mid-Point of the wrist crease, between the two tendons)
Technique: Puncture Erbai perpendicularly to a depth of 0.8 cun, giving a mild stimulation and then retaining the needle for 10 minutes. Changqiang (GV 1) is punctured obliquely upwards to a depth of l.5 cun, the needle being rotated gently with a mild stimulation until the patient feels contraction around the anus. The treatment is performed once a day, 10 sessions constituting one course. A five-day break should be taken between the courses of treatment.
(3) Needling Point Xiazhibian
Technique: The patient should lie on the side with lower leg straight and upper leg flexed, keeping the popliteal fossa of the upper leg bent at an angle of 1300 and the body trunk turned inward slightly. A correct posture should be kept in which the anterior superior iliac spine and the mid-point of the great trochanter form sides of an isosceles triangle. The crossing point of the other sides of the triangle is this point. When the treatment is performed, a 3.5 to 5 cun needle of size 28 is inserted perpendicularly through the skin. The needle body is then turned obliquely backward (dorsal gluteal side) at an angle of 100. Through this insertion the needling sensation can reach the anal intestinal area. After the needling sensation reaches the affected area, the needle can be retained one to two minutes and then taken out.
