Tips to Prevent and Treat Breast Tenderness
Apply a warm compress for 15-20 minutes on your breast, by using a heated towel or a heating pad to get relief from breast tenderness. This problem occurs mainly before, after or during your monthly period. For such times you can use a cold compress with the help of ice packs or frozen packets of fruits and vegetables wrapped in towel.
Sometimes not wearing bar can be a good enough reason for breast pain. Wear bras that support your breasts. See to it that the bras are well-padded if you are wearing an under-wired bra. If nothing works try a sports bra.
Calcium
You can also take calcium supplements 1200mg per day. This helps in easing breast tenderness. Reduction in dietary fat reduces breast pain over a period of time. A recommended dosage of 400mg magnesium supplement a day relieves cyclic breast pain and also reduces premenstrual mood symptoms.
Evening primrose oil (oenothera biennis) is very useful in easing breast tenderness. The essential fatty acid (EFA) present lessens the pain. Vitex (chasteberry) if taken in daily dosage of 30 to 40 mg may help in minimizing cramping, headaches and breast tenderness. Vitamin E is very useful in relieving breast tenderness and trouble from fibrocystic breasts. Another way is to cover your breasts with raw cabbage leafs to alleviate pain from tender swollen breasts.
Soya products contain isoflavones which lessen breast tenderness. Include soy food such as soybeans, soy milk, soy burgers and other soy products in your diet. Cutting down on your salt intake will help reduce water retention which in turn relieves pain. Avoid caffeine in any form as it contains methylxanthine that stimulates breast tissue and causes pain. Drink herbal tea made from Corn silk, Buchu or Uva ursi. These act like mild diuretics which flush out some fluid that causebreast problem.
Estrogen is stored in women's body fat. Losing excess weight reduces hormone's contribution to breast related problems. Cut down on hydrogenated fats like margarine, these obstruct your body's ability to convert essential fatty acid (EFA) from the diet into gamma linoleic acid (GLA). Our body needs GLA to stop breast pain; hence reduction of hydrogentated fats alleviates breast tenderness or pain.
