Viral hepatitis is liver inflammation due to a viral infection. It may present in acute or chronic forms. The most common causes of viral hepatitis are the five unrelated hepatotropic viruses Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D, and Hepatitis E. In addition to the nominal hepatitis viruses, other viruses that can also cause liver inflammation include Herpes simplex, Cytomegalovirus, Epstein--Barr virus, or Yellow fever. Our TCM clinical practice has showed that integration of Chinese medicine and western medicine is a very good choice for this disease. When treating viral hepatitis, Chinese doctors will take everything into consideration, including the following conditons.
1. Multiple sexual partners
2. Intravenous drug users
3. Haemophiliacs who receive blood clotting factors
4. Blood transfusion
5. Transmission of an infectious agent such as saliva, needles, mother to fetus, etc.
