1. Syndrome of wind and heat invading the lung
Main symptoms and signs: Sore throat, dysphagia, pain which is worsened when the patient swallows or coughs, burning sensation of the larynx, congestion of the palatoglossal arch and tonsil discovered by examination, simultaneous existence of fever, aversion to cold, headache, nasal obstruction, lassitude, cough with sputum, red lingual margin and tip, whitish thin or yellowish fur,floating and rapid pulse.
2. Syndrome of excessive heat of the lung and stomach
Main symptoms and signs: Severe pharyngeal pain with the ear root and the submaxillary part involved, dysphagia with obstructive sensation, marked red swelling of tonsil with yellow-white purulent spots which gradually form the false membrane, red swelling of isthmus of lances and enlargement of the submaxillary lymph with marked tenderness when the disease is severe, fever,thirst with inclination to drink, cough with yellowish sticky sputum, foul breath, constipation, dark urine, red tongue with yellowish thick fur, full-large and rapid pulse.
