TCM Diagnosis for Suppurative Lymphadenitis

Diagnostic Essentials for suppurative lymphadenitis in Chinese medicine:
1. Neck Carbuncle
It is mostly seen in children, mostly related to history of acute tonsillitis, oral sore, and dental caries, and usually occurs on the two sides of the neck. In the initial stage, the skin color does not change in the local area, but accompanied by tumefaction with clear margin and burning pain. Gradually, the skin color changes to red color and suppuration will take place after about 7 - 10 days. In suppuration, the pain is aggravated and tumefaction is protruding, with yellow-white, tenacious and thick pus. It is accompanied by obvious general symptoms.

2. Axillary Carbuncle
Before illness, there is often a history of infection or boil and sore due to skin lesion in the hand or arm. Initially, there are mostly sudden tumefaction in the local area,no change of skin color, burning pain, and limited mobility of the infected limb. In about 10 - 14 days, suppuration takes place, manifested by red color in the skin, aggravated pain, and pus sack due to hindered pus discharge after ulceration, resulting in difficulty in healing the wound, and accompanied by obvious general symptoms.

3. Hip and Abdominal Carbuncle
It is manifested by lymphatic swelling and pain in the inguinal groove and limited mobility of the infected limb. In suppuration, pain can be aggravated and the discharged pus is in yellow-white, tenacious and thick nature after ulceration. It is easy for the wound to heal. It is accompanied by obvious general symptoms.

4. Weizhong Toxin

It is manifested by tumefaction and pain in the popliteal fossa, no change in the skin color, limited mobility of the infected leg. In about 2- 3 weeks, suppuration takes place, limited mobility of the infected leg still exists in a short period of time after cure.
