I think the treatments that should be done for the pleural effusion and whether or not it will go away on its own depend on the reason you have the pleural effusion and the amount of symptoms you are getting from it. My pleural effusion was due to metastasis from my breast cancer. Initially it was managed and controlled for about 3 years with weekly chemo.
