(1) Dampness and Heat in the Intestine and Stomach
Chief Manifestation: sudden attack, frequent nausea, vomiting, paroxysmal abdominal pain, yellow and smelly stool and having difficulty in passing stools, thirsty with desire to drink, vexation, scanty deep yellow urine, yellow and greasy coating, confused and rapid or smooth and rapid pulse.
(2) Cold and Dampness Blocking the Middle Energizer
Chief Manifestation: Vomiting of clear water, nausea, watery diarrhea, abdominal pain, borborygmus, aversion to cold, fever, pain in the neck or joints, white and thin or white and greasy coating, surging pulse.
(3) Food stagnating in the Stomach and Intestine
Chief Manifestation: Nausea, anorexia which is worse after eating and relieved after vomiting; abdominal pain, smelly stool and having difficulty in passing stools, the pain in the abdomen relieved after passing stool, thick and greasy coating, smooth and replete pulse.
(4) Deficiency of Spleen and Stomach
Chief Manifestation: Innate deficiency, weak body, deficiency of the spleen, vomiting even with a little improper diet, loose stool, vomiting of clear water, lusterless complexion, lassitude, tiredness, pale tongue, weak pulse.
(5) Liver Qi Attacking the Spleen
Chief Manifestation: Abdominal pain and diarrhea due to depression, anger or stress, stiffiness in the chest, anorexia, belching, light red tongue, wiry pulse.
(6) Declination of Kidney Yang
Chief Manifestation: Abdominal pain and borborygmus at dawn followed by diarrhea, pain relieved after diarrhea, cold body and limbs, soreness of the waist and knees, pale tongue with white coating, sunken and thready pulse.
