The disease pertains to excess syndrome at its early stage or at acute onset of colic. It mainly results from retention of damp heat and accumulation of stones in the lower energizer as well as stagnation of qi. In treatment, clearing away heat to induce diuresis, treating stranguria to eliminate stones, promoting and regulating circulation of qi are often employed. If the disease persists, it usually turns into deficiency syndrome which is primarily manifested as deficiency of the spleen and kidneys.
In this case, invigorating the spleen and nourishing the kidneys, treating stranguria and eliminating stones are often employed. For combination of both excess and deficiency syndromes, simultaneous application of purging and tonifying methods, or simultaneous treatment for the principal and the secondary symptoms should be used.

Damp Heat at the Lower Energizer

Deficiency of Spleen Oi and Kidney Qi
Therapeutic Methods: To strengthen the spleen, tonify the kidney, replenish qi and remove stones.
Deficiency of Liver Yin and Kidney Yin
Therapeutic Methods: To nourish yin, clear away heat, reinforce the kidney and remove stones.
Deficiency of Kidney Yang
Therapeutic Methods: To warm kidney yang, treat stranguria and remove stones.
