Ingredients:
No.1  Sangye (Folium Mori) 7.5 g
No.2  Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi) 3 g
No.3  Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) 6 g
No.4  Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae) 5 g
No.5  Bohe (Herba Menthae) 2.5 g
No.6  Jiegeng (Radix Platycodi) 6 g
No.7  Shenggancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) 2.5 g
No.8  Lugen (Rhizoma Phragmitis) 6 g

Administration:
Decoct the above drugs in water for oral use.

Actions:
Expelling wind and heat, dispersing the lung to relieve cough.

Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for slight exterior heat syndrome due to exogenous pathogenic wind-warm at the early stage, marked by cough, mild feverish body, slight thirst, red tip and margin of the tongue, superficial and rapid pulse. It is applicable to common cold, flu, acute bronchitis, and acute tonsillitis with the above symptoms and belonging to exterior syndrome due to wind-heat. In case of excessive heat in the lung with rude respiration as if dyspnea, add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum ) and Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) to enhance the effect of clearing away heat in the lung.

In case of heat in the lung consuming and converting the body fluid into phlegm marked by cough with thick yellowish sputum, add Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) and Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis) to clear the lung to resolve phlegm and relieve cough. In case of excessive impairment of the body fluid marked by thirst with desire to drink, add Tianhuafen (Radix Trichosanthis) to clear away heat to promote the production of body fluid. In case of sore throat, add Tuniuxi (Radix Achyranthes Bidentatae) and Shandougen (Radix Sophorae Subprostratae) to remove pathogenic heat and toxin and relieve sore throat.

Elucidation:
This syndrome results from exogenous wind-heat, which invades the lung and leads to stagnated lung-qi. The method to eliminate wind and heat, disperse the lung and relieve cough should be adopted. Ingredients No. 1 and No. 2 act together as monarch drug, expelling wind to relieve exterior syndrome, and dispersing the lung to relieve cough. No. 3 and No. 6 function as minister drug, enhancing the effect of the monarch drug. Ingredients No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8 serve as adjuvant drug, functioning respectively to eliminate heat and toxins, dispel wind-heat, clear away heat and promote the production of body fluid. Ingredient No. 7 plays the part of guiding drug, capable of clearing away heat in the lung, relieving cough, and mediating drug properties.
