Ingredients:
No. 1 Shancigu (Bulbus Cremastrae) 90 g;
No. 2 Hongdaji (Radix Knoxiae) 45 g;
No. 3 Qianjinzishuang (frostlike powder of Semen Euphorbiae) 30 g;
No. 4 Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) 90 g;
No. 5 Shexiang (Moschus) 9 g; (Generally use artificial one)
No. 6 Xionghuang (Realgar) 30 g;
No. 7 Zhusha (Cinnabaris) 30 g.
Administration:
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder and make it into pastilles with the paste of Nuomi (Semen Oryzae Glutinosae); then dry the pastilles in the shade. Take orally 0.6 - 1.5 g each time and twice daily; or apply it externally over the affected parts after mixed with vinegar.
Actions:
Eliminating phlegm for resuscitation, removing turbid and toxic substances, relieving swelling and pain.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for sunstroke or seasonal pestilence, marked by epigastria and abdominal distension, fullness and pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; or indicated in infantile phlegm syncope; or carbuncles, furuncles, boils; or bite wounds; or unknown swelling. This recipe can be taken orally for cases of acute gastroenteritis, food poisoning and dysentery, which are brought about by turbid substance or phlegm and manifested as thick greasy fur or grimy greasy fur. It can also be applied externally for acute pyogenic infection of the skin and soft tissues.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is caused by functional disorder of the stomach and intestines in ascending and descending due to attack by turbid substances or phlegm. It should be treated by eliminating phlegm for resuscitation, removing turbid and toxic substances and relieving swelling and pain. The first ingredient is capable of clearing away heat and relieving swelling, eliminating phlegm and mass and removing t6xins. Ingredient No. 5, aromatic in flavor, can induce resuscitation and promote the circulation of qi to relieve pain. Both play the role of monarch drugs.
Ingredients No. 3 and No. 2 are used as minister drugs, assisting the monarch drugs in eliminating phlegm, relieving swelling and removing mass. Ingredient No. 4 has an astringent action and can relieve diarrhea. No. 6 can eliminate turbid and toxic substances and No. 7 tranquilize mind. The above three act as adjuvant drugs. All ingredients together can restore consciousness, eliminate phlegm and toxins if taken orally, and can clear away heat, relieve swelling and pain, and remove mass if applied externally.
Cautions:
Ingredients No. 3 and No. 2 are drastic and poisonous in property, and therefore must not be taken with overdose or for a long time.
