Acupuncture Extra Point Qiduan (EX-LE12)
Location:
Stretch one's foot; at the tips of 10 toes.
Function:
Inducing resuscitation, and relieving swelling and pain of the foot.
Regional Anatomy:
The point on the great and 2nd toes is innervated by the dorsal digital nerves from the superficial peroneal and deep peroneal nerves, and the proper digital plantar nerve from the tibial nerve. The point on the 3rd and 4th toes is innervated by the dorsal digital nerve from the superficial peroneal nerve and the proper digital plantar nerve from the tibial nerve. The point on the little toe is innervated by the dorsal digital nerve form the sural nerve and from the suprtficial peroneal nerve, and the proper digital plantar nerve form the tibial nerve. The points are supplied by the proper digital plantar artery from the medial and laterl plantar arteries of foot and the dorsal digital artery from the dorsal artery of the foot.
Indications:
Beriberi, swelling of the dorsum of the foot, and foot pain.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.1-0.2 cun deep or prick to cause bleeding; needling response: local distension and pain; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-10 min.
