Acupuncture Point Yingxiang (LI20)
Location:
Proper sitting with one's back propped; at the midpoint of the line connecting nasolabial groove and the lateralborder of ala nasi.
Function:
Expelling wind and clearing away heat, clearing the nasal passage, and regulating the flow of qi to alleviate pain.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-levator muscle of upper lip. In the superficial layer, there are the branches of infraorbital nerve from the maxillary nerve. In the deep layer, there are the buccal branches of the facial nerve and the branches or tributaries of the facial artery and vein.
Indications:
Nasal obstruction, hyposmia, epistaxis, rhinorrhea, deviation of the mouth, itching and swelling of the face.
Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point), ShangxingGV23 (Shangxing (GV23)) and BaihuiGV20 (Baihui (GV20)) for treatment of rhinitis; with ZulinqiGB41(Zulinqi (GB41) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point), TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR 3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) and HeguLI4 (LI4) for treatment of acute conjunctivitis; and with JiacheST6 (Jiache (ST6)) and TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) for treatment of facial paralysis.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely or perpendicularly 0.2-1.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness.
