Acupuncture Point Tianrong (SI17)
Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate on one`s side; on the level of the angle of mandible the anterior border of the attachment part of m. sternocleidomastoideus, and on the inferior border of venter posterior musculi digastrici.
Function:
Inducing resuscilation, regulating the flow of qi, resolving masses, and clearing away the heat.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-posteroir side of facial artery-tendons of digastric muscle and stylohyoid muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the greater auricular nerve and the external jugular vein. In the deep layer, there are the facial artery and vein, the internal jugular vein, the accessory nerve, the vagus nerve, the hypoglossal nerve and the superior cervical ganglion.
Indications:
Deafness, tinnitus, sore throat, swelling of the cheek, foreign body sensation in the throat, and goiter.
Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI 4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of acute tonsillitis; with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of cervical lymphadenitis; with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of hydrolabyrinth; with TinghuiGB2 (Tinghui (GB 2)), TinggongSI19 (Tinggong (SI 19)) and ZhongzhuTE3 (Zhongzhu (TE3) Shu-Stream Point) for treatment of deafness and tinnitus; and with BingfengSI12 (Bingfeng (SI12)) for treatment of pain in the shoulder.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.1-1.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and numbness, radiating to the throat; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, because some important structures, such as the internal carotid vien, the external caroid vien and the internal jugular vien, etc. are in the deep layer.
