Acupuncture Point Tianchuang (SI16)
Location:
Upright sitting; on the level of LianquanCV23(Lianquan (CV23)) ( midway between the thyroid cartilage and the muscles of hyoid bone ), on the posterior border of sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Function:
Inducing resuscitation, tranquilizing mind, regulating the flow of qi, and dispersing the accumulation of lumps.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-posterior border of sternocleidomastoid muscal-levator muscle of scapula-splenius muscle of neck and head.
In the superficial layer, there are the greater auricular nerve, the lesser occipital nerve and the external jugular vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the ascending cervical artery and jugular vein.

Indications:
Sore throat, sudden loss of voice, deafness, tinnitus, stiffness and pain of the neck.

Prescription:
Combined use with DingchuanEXB1 (EX-B1) for treatment of bronchial asthma; with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of vasculitis; with NaohuiTE13 (Naohui (TE 13)) for treatment of goiter; and with YifengTE17 (Yifeng (TE 17)) for treatment of trismus.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun deep; needling response: a sensation of numbness and distension radiating to the thumb; moxibustion : 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
