(1) Indirect Moxibustion with Ginger
Points:① Feishu (BL 13) and Lingtai (GV 10). ② Shenshu (BL23). ③ Tiantu (Ren 22) and Shanzhong (CV 17)
Technique: The three group points are applied alternately daily. The ignited moxa cone (in the size of half of a date-stone) is placed on the acupoint isolated with a slice of fresh ginger, about 0.1 cun thick. Five to seven cones are required for each treatment on each point. A seven-day treatment makes up one course. The method is good for bronchial asthma.
(2) Scaring Moxibustion .
Points: ① Tiantu (Ren 22), Lingtai (GV 10) and Feishu (BL 13). ② Fengmen (BL 12) and Dazhui (GV 14). ③ Dazhu (BL 11) and Shanz hong (CV17). Supplementary points according to the differentiation of syndromes: for cold type, adding Zhongwan (Ren 12), Lieque (LU7) and Zusanli (ST 36); for phlegm heat type, adding Lieque (LU7) and Fenglong (ST 40); for the deficiency type, adding Shenshu (BL23) and Guanyuan (Ren 4); for facial edema, adding Shuifen (Ren 9) and Pishu (BL20).
Technique: The moxa cone, 0.6 to 0.8 cm in diameter and l to 1.2 cm high, is prepared. The point is sterilized and given a local anesthesia with procarine 0.5 to 1 ml. Then the garlic juice is applied on the point. Five to nine cones are required on each point in each treatment. Generally, moxibustion is given three times for an adult once a year. The best treatment duration is from Lesser Heat to White Dew by the lunar calendar. (The treatment can also be given in other times of year.) The three prescriptions are applied alternately in each treatment and modified based on the differentiation.
