Ingredients
Zhen Zhu 4.5 g,
Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang) 4.5 g,
Moschus (Shexiang) 4.5 g,
Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) 3 g,
Venenum Bufonis (Chansu) 3 g,
Realgar (Xionghuang) 3 g
Explanation
Niu Huang: Clearing away heat and toxic material, eliminating phlegm and dispelling masses.
She Xiang: Being pungent in taste and disperse in nature, not only promoting the circulation of blood and dispelling masses but also clearing and activating the channels and collaterals.
Bing Pian: Being aromatic in nature, clearing away epidemic pathogenic factors, causing resuscitation, strengthening She Xiang's action of restoring consciousness.
Zhen Zhu: Calming the mind through their heavy property to drive away dysphoria.
Chan Su: Inducing resuscitation and refreshing mind, removing toxicity, alleviating pain.
Xiong Huang: Aiding Niu Huang in eliminating phlegm and toxic material for resuscitation.
Contraindication
It is contraindicated to pregnant women and athletes.
Treatment in Western Medicine:
The treatment of Diphtheria must begin with a fast. No milk should be given to the patient. Warm water eneme must be given to the patient twice daily. The child must lie on the one side and not on his back so that he does not swallow the secretions from the infected tonsils. Absorbant cotton balls may be placed in the mouth to absorb the secretions.
Cold packs should be applied to the throat at two-hourly intervals and if the fever goes high the whole body should be treated to a cold packs.
After several hours of a high temperature, the sweating begins and the fever comes down leaving the patient extremely weak and emaciated. The diphtheria fever may come again, the next day, two days after or even three days later.
