Chronic renal failure is most often caused by deficiency of healthy qi and excess of pathogenic factors, deficiency of the kidneys and spleen and retention of turbid pathogenic factors. So the treatment usually aims at supporting healthy qi to eliminate pathogenic factors. Supporting healthy qi means regulating the deficiency of yin, yang, qi and blood. Eliminating the pathogenic factors refers to activating blood circulation, clearing away heat, inducing diuresis, dispelling dampness, calming down endopathic wind, purging turbid pathogenic factors and removing toxic substances, which should be adopted in the light of the nature of pathogenic factors.
