Ingredients:
No. 1 Sangpiaoxiao (Ootheca Mantidis) 30 g;
No. 2 Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae) 30 g;
No. 3 Shichangpu (Rhizoma Acori Graminei) 30 g;
No. 4 Longgu (Os Draconis) 30 g;
No. 5 Renshen (Radix Ginseng) 30 g;
No. 6 Fushen (Sclerotium Poriae Circum Radicem Pini) 30 g;
No. 7 Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) 30 g;
No.8 Zhiguiban (Plastrum Testudinis Praeparatae) 30 g.
Administration:
Grind the above except No. 5 into fine powder, take 6 g each time with the decoction of No. 5 before going to bed. Or decoct them for oral application with dosages in proportion to the original recipe.
Actions:
Regulating and invigorating the heart and kidney to arrest emission and enuresis.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for seminal emission or enuresis due to deficiency of the heart and kidney, marked by spermatorrhea or enuresis, or frequent micturition, turbid urine like rice-washing water, or absentmindedness, amnesia, pale tongue with whitish fur, thready feeble pulse. It is applicable to infantile enuresis, spermatorrhea, diabetes, neurosis and others, which pertain to deficiency of the heart and spleen, and are characterized by enuresis or spermatorrhea with absentmindedness.
In case of failure of the kidney in arresting sperms with excessive emission, add Shayuanjili (Semen Astragali Complanti) and Shanzhuyu ( Fructus Corni) to strengthen the effect of reinforcing the kidney to restrain sperms. In case of marked yang deficiency with soreness of waist and cold limbs, add Buguzhi (Fructus Psoraleae) and Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae) to enhance the effect of warming kidney-yang.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is caused by deficiency of both the heart and kidney, discordance between water and fire, kidney’s failing to astringe essence and uncontrolled urination of urinary bladder. It should be treated by regulating and reinforcing the heart and kidney to restrain emission or enuresis. The first ingredient is monarch drug with the effects of reinforcing the kidney, restraining sperms and relieving enuresis. Ingredient No. 4 bears the action of tranquilizing mind and helps the monarch drug with the astringent effect. The last ingredient is capable of nourishing kidney-yin and reinforcing the kidney, and can nourish yin and suppress yang when combined with No. 4. Both function as minister drugs.
Ingredient No. 5 can replenish the primordial qi and No. 7 nourishes the heart-blood to ease mind. No. 6, No. 2 and No. 3 possess the effects of tranquilizing mind, inducing resuscitation and dissolving phlegm, which are helpful in restoring coordination between the heart and kidney when in compatibility with other tonic ingredients. These five ingredients together serve as adjuvant drugs.
Cautions:
This recipe is contraindicated for frequent micturition and enuresis due to downward flow of damp heat or yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney.
