It is applicable to infantile summer heat, chronic pyelonephritis, postmeasles pneumonia, renal tuberculosis and other diseases with unrelieved low fever for unknown reasons, which pertain to deficiency of yin fluid and latent heat in the interior. In case of dominant heat of deficiency type concomitant with steaming sensation in the bones and hectic fever, add Digupi (Cortex Lycii Radicis) and Huhuanglian (Rhizoma Picrorhizae). In case of severe impairment of yin fluid, thirst and dryness of the lips, add Tianhuafen (Radix Trichosanthis) and Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis) to nourish yin and promote the production of body fluid.

Both are used as monarch drug to nourish yin fluid and expel latent heat. Ingredient No. 3, capable of removing heat from blood and nourishing yin, and No. 4, nourishing yin and descending fire, help ingredient No. 2 nourish yin and dispel heat of deficiency type. Both are used as minister drug. Ingredient No. 5 is able to remove heat from blood and help No. 1 expel the remaining heat, acting as adjuvant drug.
