Acupuncture Point Zhongji (CV3)
Location:
Lie supinely; draw a line connecting umbilicus and the midpoint of the upper margin of pubic bone, a spot on this line, 4/5 apart from umbilicus, or 1/5 apart from the midpoint of the upper margin of pubic bone.
Function:
Supporting yang and promoting diuresis, regulating menstruation and stopping leukorrhagia.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-linea alba-transverse fascia-extraperitoneal fat tissue-parietal peritoneum.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneous branches of the iliohypogastric nerve and the branches or tributaries of the superficial epigastric artery and vein.In the deep layer, there are the branches of the iliohypogastric nerve.
Indications:
Enuresis, emission, Impotence, hernia, metrorrhagia, Irregular Menstruation, dysmenorrhea, Leukorrhagia, frequency of micturition, retention of urine, pain in the lower abdomen, and prolapse of the uterus, vaginitis.
Prescription:
Combined use with Sanyinjiao (SP6) for treatment of cystitis and gonorrhea; with Zusanli (ST 36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of impotence and emission; with Taixi (KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point), Fuliu (KI7) Jing-River Point) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) for treatment of irregular menstruation; and with Zigong (EX- CA 1) for treatment of metrorrhagia.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention, radiating toward the urethra; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Before puncture, the patient must have his bladder evacuated, or else the filled bladder, which is higher than the upper margin of pubic bone, would be penetrated, and cause the flowing of urine to the peritoneal cavity, leading to peritonitis.
