(1) Puncturing liyanxue
Point: Liyanxue (in the depression posterior to the middle of the earlobe and angle of mandible)
Technique: The patient is in a sitting position with the eyes staring straight ahead. An l.5-cun filiform needle is inserted toward the throat, 0.8 t0 1.2-cun deep. Scraping needle technique is applied. The needle is retained for 30 to 60 minutes and scraped once every 10 to 20 minutes. The technique is for acute laryngitis. For fever, Dazhui (GV 14) and Hegu(LI 4) are punctured, and Shaoshang (LU11) is punctured to bleed. The treatment is given once daily.
(2) Puncturing Fengfu (GV 16)
Points: Fengfu (GV 16),
Technique: Each point is punctured 0.3 to 0.5 cun deep and rotated for 2 minutes. This is for treating a sore throat with hoarse voice.
(3) Selecting the Points Along the
Points: Handing (LI17) and Jianshi (PC 5)
Technique: Bai Zheng Fu (Fu on One Hundred Diseases): "Tianding (LI17) and Jianshi (PC5) stop aphonia." Since the large intestine is related to the lung externally and internally, Tianding (LI 17) is located beside the throat, good for promoting lung qi dispersal and benefiting he vocal chords following sudden loss of voice. Jianshi (PC5) can regulate heart functions. Internal Classic says: "The heart dominates speech and the liver dominates language." The speaking disorder is related to the heart and liver. The reducing needle technique is applied after the arrival of qi. Such a method is for treating hysteric aphonia.
(4) Puncturing Shenzhu (GV 12)

Technique: For hysteric aphonia, if there is no effect through treatment with Tiantu (CV 22), Lianquan (Ren 23), Yamen (GV 15), Yongquan (KI 1), Hegu (LIn4) and Baihui (GV20), Shenzhu (GV 12) is punctured and good effect is achieved immediately.
(5) Puncturing Renzhong (GV 26)
Point: Renzhong (GV 26)
Technique: Renzhong (GV 26) is punctured with a l.5-cun filiform needle with strong stimulation until the patient cries with tears running down the face. This had good effect for hysteric aphonia.
(6) Selecting the Nearby Points
Point: Lianquan (CV 23)
Technique: Lianquan (CV 23) is punctured with a No.30 filiform needle, 1.5 cun long, with the tip toward the tongue root obliquely about l cun deep. Reducing technique by lifting and thrusting the needle is applied to cause numbness radiating from the neck to the tongue.
(7) Selecting the Distal Points
Point: Yongquan (KI 1)
Technique: Quick needling technique is applied on Yongquan (KIl) bilaterally with strong stimulation. The treatment is given once every two days, and is indicated for aphonia due to encephalitis B.
(8) Puncturing Luo-Connecting Points
Points: Neiguan (PC6) and Tongli (HT7)
Technique: One-cun filiform needles are applied to puncture the Luo-Connecting points of the heart meridian of Hand-Shaoyin and pericardium meridian of Hand-Yueyin with strong stimulation, and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.
