Essentials for diagnosis
(1) Jaundice occurs early (within 24 hours after birth) and develops quickly. The yellow colour is marked and possibly present again after subsidence; or jaundice occurs late and lasts without relief. The patient has enlargement of the liver and spleen in most cases, listlessness, disinclination to suck milk and greyish white stool.
(2) Elevation of serum bilirubin and icteric index is obvious; urine bilirubin is positive and test of urobilinogen shows positive or negative; liver function is possibly normal.
(3) Blood groups of the mother and child are determined to ascertain whether there exists hemolytic jaundice or not due to incompatible blood group of ABO or Rh.
In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors. When diagnosing a disease or a symptom, TCM doctors must follow the principle of "Syndrome Dfferentiation", and then "Suit the Remedy to the Case". In order to gain a more definite and valuable diagnosis, it's important and necessary for the doctor to learn the detailed health information of the patient, including his/her disease duration, age, sex, height, weight, family history, urine, stool, diet, sleep, sweat, energy, mood (emotion), as well as the tongue conditions and the palm conditions, etc. If you would want our expert to create a TCM diagnosis, you're welcome to contact us.
