Ingredients:
No. 1 Wuyao ( Radix Linderae ) ;
No. 2 Yizhiren (Fructus Alpiniae Oxyphyllae);
Equal in dosage.
Administration:
Grind the above into fine powder and make the powder into small pills by means of the paste of wine-parched Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae); take 9 g each time and twice daily with light salty water or rice gruel. Or decoct the above in water for oral application with dosages in proportion to the original recipe.
Actions: Warming the kidney to reduce urination.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for enuresis due to kidney deficiency, marked by frequent micturition or enuresis, pale tongue, thready feeble pulse. It is applicable to infantile enuresis, nervous frequent micturition, diabetes insipidus as well as hypersalivation and excessive nasal discharge and others, which pertain to instability of kidney-qi. Since this recipe is simple in composition and mild in efficacy, it is necessary to add Buguzhi (Fructus Psoraleae), Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae), Sangpiaoxiao (Ootheca Mantidis) and Fupenzi (Fructus Rubi) in severe case to enhance the effect of warming and consolidating the kidney.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is caused by deficiency of kidney-qi, leading to deficiency cold syndrome of the urinary bladder and its failure in restraining fluid. It should be treated by warming the kidney. The second ingredient acts as monarch drug to invigorate kidney-yang and preserve essence to relieve enuresis. The first ingredient is capable of warming the kidney and dispelling cold and helps bring about the effect of the monarch drug, functioning as minister drug. Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) is used as adjuvant drug with the effect of reinforcing the spleen and kidney and preserving essential qi. All drugs together, warm but not dry, with astringent effect but not leading to stagnation of pathogenic factors, restore the function of the kidney and urinary bladder, thus relieving frequent micturition and enuresis.
