(1) Herbal Therapy
1) Internal Medicine
a. Liver Deficiency due to Wind-heat:
Therapeutic Method: To settle the liver, improve eyesight and nourish blood.
Recipe: Lycium Berry, Chrysanthemum, and Rehmannia Pill.
b. Liver and Gallbladder Damp-heat:
Therapeutic Method: To clear liver and gallbladder, dispel damp-heat.
Recipe: Gentian Liver-Draining Pill.
c. Heart and Spleen Deficiency:
Therapeutic Method: To tonifying middle-Jiao and Qi, nourish blood and quite spirit.
Recipe: Spleen-Returning Pill.
d. Liver-kidney qi deficiency: Therapeutic Method: To nourish kidney and liver, eliminate eye screens and improve eyesight. Recipe: Dendrobium Night Vision Pill.
2) External Medicine
a. Wash 0.6g fresh ginger and remove the peel, grind with 6g Bletilla flour, 0.6g Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian) flour and 0.6g borneol flour into powder. Ask patients to adopt supine position, cover the eyes with 4cm length and 2cm width gauze, then apply the powder to the 3cm above the eyebrow and from bilateral side of eyes to Taiyang (EX- HN 5), more medicine to the eyes, lie on the back in the bed after applying the external medicine, take the medicine away when it crack. It can clear heat and improve eyesight, relieve eyestrain and treat myopia.
b. Grind 120g Radix Rehmanniae (Shengdihuang), 20g Asparagus Cochinchinensis, 20g chrysanthemum, 90g Fructus Aurantii into thin powder, mix with honey into soft paste, apply right amount of paste to bilateral Taiyang (EX- HN 5) and cover with gauze, fix with adhesive plaster, apply it in the evening and take it away in the next day morning, once a day. It has the effect of removing pattogenic heat from the blood and toxic material from the body, regulating qi and improving eyesight, treating myopia.
c. Grind 15g Herba Asari (Xixin), 15g camphor and 1g borneol into thin powder, add Vaseline to mix into paste, then apply to the bilateral Taiyang (EX- HN 5) and cover with gauze, fix with adhesive plaster, apply it before sleep at night. It’s applicable to treating myopia due to over use of eyes.
(2) Acupoints Massage
1) Knead and press the around of eyes: Press orbits from inner to outer with thumbs and forefingers; hold together the forefinger and middle finger to press clockwise and anti-clockwise to the around of eyes for 3 circles with gentle force; knead the upper and lower orbits with thumbs or forefingers.
2) Knead and press Jingming (BL 1) for improving eyesight: Gently knead bilateral sides of Jingming (BL 1) with forefingers, up and down, back and forth.
3) Pull Yangbai (GB 14): Gently pull Yangbai (GB 14) with fingertips of forefingers until a distention sensation occurs in the eyeballs, once every other day.
4) Press eyeballs to boost qi: On the base of pressing eyeballs with forefinger, pinch the eyeballs with forefinger, middle fingers and ring fingers gently and shake it. Or press and shake eyeballs with many fingers or major-thenar with appropriate force.
5) Pinch and seize eyes and ears: Pinch and seize upper and lower eyelids respectively with forefingers and middle fingers, quickly pinch and quickly put down; press upper and lower orbits with back of middle fingers; pinch and knead earlobe with thumbs outward.
6) Press cervical muscle: Knead and press bilateral cervical muscles with thumbs, lift lower jaw and dorsal occipital upward. It also can adopt moving method or rotating method to the restoration and reclamation of crooked spinous process.
7) Press Shu points to nourish liver: Press and knead bilateral sides of Ganshu (BL 18), Shenshu (BL23), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Zuguangming with thumb.
8) If patients with hyperdacryosis, add pressing Yifeng (TE 17), Chengqi (ST 1). For patients with distention and pain in the eyes, knead Qiuhou (EX-HN7). For patients with dizziness, press two temples with many fingers, and press Yintang (EX-HN3). For patients with prolonged myopia, press Jingming (BL 1), Taiyang (EX- HN 5), Yangbai (GB 14) and Sibai (ST2) to nourish liver and kidney, bank up earth and engender metal, improve eyesight.
The above massages mainly treat teenage myopia to nourish liver and improve eyesight, boost qi and nourish blood, adjust channel-qi of the eyes.
(5) Foot Massage
1) Basic reflection areas: liver, kidney, eyes, hypophysis, adrenal gland, germen.
Related reflection areas: head (cerebrum), epencephalon, brainstem, trigeminus, parathyroid, spleen, ureter, bladder, cervical vertebra, thoracic vertebra, lumbar vertebra and sacrum.
Symptom reflection areas: stomach, pancreas, duodenum, caecum, ileocecal valve, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, colon sigmoideum, rectum, small intestine, anus.
Reflexotherapy is taken up of 10-15 times as a course of treatment, 30-40 times each time, 1-2 times each day, repeat it after 1-2 days. Soak both feet with light salt water to recover the feet sensitive to massage.
2) Manipulation:
a. the sole reflection areas: digital pressing manipulation by the finger tip of the thumb, digital pressing manipulation with digital joints of forefinger, scraping manipulation with digital joints of thumb, pressing and pushing manipulation with thumb, scraping manipulation with digital joints of forefinger, scraping manipulation with digital joints of both fingers, scraping manipulation with fist, scrubbing manipulation, raping manipulation with the surface of fist.
b. Inner side of the feet reflection areas: pressing manipulation, pushing manipulation with thumb and rapping manipulation.
c. Outer side of the feet reflection areas: scraping manipulation with outer edge of the forefinger, pressing manipulation, pushing manipulation with thumbs and rapping manipulation.
