Ingredients:
No.1 Huangqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari) 30 g
No.2 Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) 6 g
Administration: Decoct the drugs in water for oral application.
Actions: Invigorating qi to promote blood generation.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for syndrome of fever due to blood deficiency marked by feverish body and flushed face, polydipsia with desire for drink, large but weak pulse when pressed. It can be modified to treat menstrual and postpartum fever and headache, long and unhealed carbuncles and ulcers, anemia, allergic purpura and others, which pertain to deficiency of blood and qi.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is caused by floating yang due to blood deficiency, and yin failing to keep yang well, which should be treated by replenishing qi and promoting blood production. Used as monarch drug, the first ingredient in larger dosage is capable of invigorating spleen and lung qi, enriching the source of blood and consolidating superficial resistance to astringe the floating yang. The second ingredient acts as minister drug with the effect of nourishing blood. The two ingredients promote generation of yang and growth of yin, abundance of qi and generation of blood. When they are taken by patients with fever due to blood deficiency, the abundance of ying blood may enrich yang. When they are taken by patients with blood and qi deficiency, the abundance of primordial qi ensures blood generation.
Cautions:
This recipe is contraindicated for patients of yin deficiency with hectic fever.
