Ingredients:
No.1 Sangye (Folium Mori) 3 g
No.2 Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) 5 g
No.3 Shashen (Radix Adenophorae Strictae) 6 g
No.4 Zhebeimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii) 3 g
No.5 Dandouchi (Semen Sojae Praeparatum) 3 g
No.6 Zhizipi (Pericarpium Gardeniae) 3 g
No.7 Lipi (Exocarpium Pyrus) 3g
Administration:
Decoct the above drugs for oral use.
Actions:
Releasing the inhibited lung-qi by dispelling dryness-heat, moistening the lung to relieve cough.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for mild state of exterior syndrome due to dryness, marked by headache, mild feverish body, thirst, dryness of the throat and nasal cavity, cough without sputum or little sticky sputum, red tongue with thin whitish and dry fur, superficial and rapid pulse. It is used to treat upper respiratory tract infection, acute bronchitis, bronchiectasic hemoptysis, and pertussis, etc. occurring in autumn days, which are attributable to exogenous warmness and dryness affecting and burning the lung-yin, and manifested as feverish body, headache, thirst and dryness of the throat.
In case of serious dryness of the throat, add Niubangzi (Fructus Arctii) and Bohe (Herba Menthae) to relieve sore throat. In case of heat scorching the lung collateral marked by expectoration with blood streaks or epistaxis, add Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae) and Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan Radicis) to cool blood and stop bleeding. In case of excessive heat in the lung with thick yellowish sputum, add Gualoupi (Pericarpium Trichosanthis) and Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) to clear away heat and resolve phlegm.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is due to attack of warm-dryness in autumn, burning lung-yin and causing lung's failure in its purifying and descending function. It should be treated by releasing stagnated lung-qi with drugs of mild action, and moistening the lung to relieve cough. Ingredient No. 1 expelling dryness-heat and dispersing the lung to relieve cough; No. 2 dispersing the lung and moistening the lung to relieve cough, both of them act as monarch drug. Ingredients No. 5, No. 3 and No. 4 play together the part of minister drug, capable of helping the monarch drug to clear away heat in the lung and moisten the lung to relieve cough. No. 6, clearing away lung-heat and No. 7 clearing the lung and moistening dryness, serve as adjuvant drug. It is advisable to use this recipe in the mild state of the above syndrome because of its mild action.
Cautions:
Since this recipe is mild in action, it is not applicable to serious impairment of the lung-yin by dryness marked by feverish body, cough and dyspnea, dry and red tongue with little fur.
