It is applicable to chyluria, chronic prostatitis and others, which pertain to deficiency-cold in the lower energizer. If concomitant with abdominal pain due to deficiency cold, add Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi) and Xiaohuixiang (Fructus Foeniculi) to warm the middle-energizer and dispel cold. If concomitant with soreness of the waist and cold limbs, add Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae) and Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae) to warm the kidney-yang. In case of qi deficiency as the result of long illness, add Huangqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari) and Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) to supplement qi and eliminate dampness.
Elucidation:
The syndrome results from kidney-yang deficiency, causing disturbance of qi activity, failure in separating the clear from the turbid, and downward flow of dampness and turbidity. It should be treated by warming the kidney-yang and inducing diuresis, separating the clear from the turbid. No. 1 is capable of inducing diuresis and eliminating the turbid and is the monarch drug for treating turbid urine. No. 3 functions as minister drug, which can warm the kidney-yang and arrest polyuria.
With the function of eliminating dampness and turbid substances, No. 4 can help No. 1 separate the clear from the turbid and assist No. 3 in expelling deficiency-cold from the bladder. No. 2 has the effect of warming the kidney and bladder and can deal with frequent urination. Thus No. 4 and No. 2 act together as adjuvant drugs. Salt added before decocting the drugs is meant to cause other drugs to take effect directly in the lower energizer, which serves as guiding drug.
Cautions:
This recipe is contraindicated for turbid urine with frequent and urgent painful urination, reddened tongue and greasy yellowish fur.
