Ingredients:
No. 1 Huashi (Talcum) 180 g;
No. 2 Shenggancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Recens) 30 g.
Administration:
Grind the above drugs into fine powder; decoct 9 g each time after wrapped with a piece of cloth or take orally with warm boiled water; three times daily.
Actions:
Clearing away heat and eliminating dampness.
Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for damp heat syndrome of the lower-energizer, marked by feverish body, polydipsia, bradyuria, or frequency and urgency of urination with pain, or diarrhea, reddened tongue with greasy yellowish fur, rapid pulse. It is applicable to cystitis, urethritis, acute enteritis and others, which pertain to damp heat syndrome. Since this recipe is mild in action, it is seldom used singly and often wrapped with a piece of cloth and decocted with some recipe with the function of clearing away heat and promoting diuresis.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is caused by downward flow of damp heat to the urinary bladder, which either causes difficulty in urination, or retains in the intestines, and leads to dysfunction in transportation. It should be treated by clearing away heat and eliminating dampness. Huashi (Talcum) in the recipe is sweet, bland and cold in nature -- bland nature can eliminate dampness, cold nature clear away heat, and smoothness promoting defecation and urination. It is good at clearing away heat, relieving vexation, inducing diuresis and relieving stranguria and is used as monarch drug. No. 2 functions as adjuvant drug, which is capable of clearing away heat and purging fire, mediating drug properties and preventing No. 1 from impairing the middle-energizer. This recipe is a common one for clearing away heat and inducing diuresis, which is cold in nature but does not impair the middle-energizer, induces diuresis but without drastic potency.
Cautions:
This recipe is contraindicated for patients with usual yin deficiency or without heat syndrome.
